What is the SriLankan Airlines Student promotion?

The SriLankan Airlines Student promotion can be availed by students travelling for their education, their parents and their spouses visiting the students at their country of study. Students can obtain 10% discount from their initial tickets and 15% discount from the subsequent tickets and up to 40kg free extra baggage allowance for Economy Class & 50kg free baggage allowance for Business class tickets as well. Students, their parents, and their spouses must be enrolled into the FlySmiLes loyalty program to be eligible for this offer.


Who is eligible for the offer?

The students who have purchased their air tickets on Business & Economy class, through our website Srilankan.com under the below terms and conditions are eligible for the offer.


  • Students visa holders travelling for their placement at overseas Universities.
  • Undergraduates students post graduate students already at their placement at universities.
  • Parents/ Spouses wish to visit students.
  • Students, parents and spouses travelling must become FlySmiLes members to claim this offer.
  • This discount is not applicable for Child and Infant tickets.
  • How do I register for the SriLankan Airlines Student Promotion?
    Access our student promotion page and click on “Register now”. Complete the form with the required information and submit as required.

Is it mandatory to have a FlySmiLes membership number?

Yes, it is mandatory to have FlySmiLes Membership Number for the students to enroll for the offer. If you don’t have a FlySmiLes membership, please click on the “Not a FlySmiLes member?” option which will direct you to the registration process.

My parents/spouse do not have passports. How I can enroll them to FlySmiLes program? Is it mandatory?

If your parents/spouse do not travel with you or are not intending to travel to the country of your study under the student promotion, you do not have to enroll them as FlySmiLes members. You only need to enroll them as FlySmiLes members if they intend to take advantage of our Student Promotion and are planning to travel to the country of your studies.

However, if you need to register them for the student promotion for future travels, you can also enroll your parents/spouse for the FlySmiLes program with their National Identity Card details as well.

What are the benefits I can get from the student offer?

You can get the below benefits when you register for the student offer.

  • Free baggage allowance of up to 40Kg for the student passenger on Economy class ticket.
  • 10% cash back for the first ticket with 40kg free baggage allowance for economy class tickets.
  • 15% off on the subsequent 4 tickets purchased for the student for the same sector in the form of a cashback for the Economy class.
  • 50kg free baggage allowance for Business class tickets.
  • 5% off on up to 5 tickets purchased by the parents or the spouse for the same sector in the form of a cashback.


What documents I need in hand prior to commencing the process?

You will need the following documents in hand prior to commencing the process.

  • Copy of student passport name page.
  • Copy of valid visa document or Student ID/University letter.
  • Frequent flyer number of student and parents/spouse if they are travelling.
  • E Ticket


What are the steps students should follow to avail the offer?

Log in to our student offer page. Click on the 'Register Now' to register yourself for the student special offer program.

Once you click on Register Now, you will be directed to another screen with two options.

If you are not a FlySmiLes member, you must first register as a FlySmiLes member. Select the "Register Now" option to get register as a FlySmiLes member.
If you are already a FlySmiLes member and you haven't purchased the ticket yet, click on “Purchase now” option and, it will direct you to the main page of our website where you will be able to book your ticket.
If you are already a FlySmiLes members and purchased a ticket, click on 'Start Registration' and please proceed as per instructions, filling in all details as necessary.


I am a student and my mother/father/spouse travels to see me. Can they avail the student promotion discount?

This offer applies even if students and parents or spouse travel separately. (Travel between Resident country & Educational country only.


What is the maximum baggage allowance for the original ticket if you are allowing another 10kgs according to the student promotion?

Economy Class
The free baggage allowance after the promotion will be 40kg. If your original ticket has higher or exact baggage allowance of 40kg, you will not entitle for additional baggage allowance. When you have registered for the student offer, your total free baggage allowance must be a maximum 40kgs.
However, you are entitled for the discount if it is not issued through a different promotion.

Business Class
The free baggage allowance after the promotion will be 50kg. If your original ticket has higher or exact baggage allowance of 50kg, you will not entitle for additional baggage allowance. When you have registered for the student offer, your total free baggage allowance must be a maximum 50kgs.
However, you are entitled for the discount if it is not issued through a different promotion.


How long will my cashback take?

Once you made the request, initially you will be receiving a confirmation email from SriLankan Airlines. Cash will be credited to the same card which you have purchased your ticket, within 25 bank working days from the date you have completed the travel.


I have purchased the ticket through another promotion. Can I avail student promotion as well?

No. Promotional tickets are not valid for the student offer.


Are there any terms and conditions that I should be aware of when applying for the offer?

Discount shall apply ONLY to the same route between the country of residence and country of study. Stopovers are not permitted.

Subsequent discounts for students, parents or spouse are ONLY valid between the country of residence and country of study. 5%, 10% and 15% discounts are applicable to the base fares (excluding all applicable taxes and surcharges); and will be given in the form of cashback.


I have not yet received a reply from your end regarding my student promotion? What should I do?

If you have submitted the student offer request and not received any acknowledgment, please email us on bookings.srilankan.com from the same e-mail address which you have used to register for the student promotion.


Even though I am a student, my visa is not student visa, am i still eligible or will this offer.

Students MUST hold a valid student visa at the time of travel.


I’m holding a ticket with a codeshare flight with QF/MH to Australia. Will I be eligible for the student offer?

Reservation involved with other airline sectors are not eligible for the offer.
