SriLankan Airlines celebrate World Environment Day 2013 with the world by initiating a sequence of events and launching few new projects. Highlighting on preserving the environment, optimizing energy and natural resources SriLankan commissioned its own internal Biogas plant and the ‘Solatube’ Project for Module shop. These projects set to reduce the airline energy usage as well as reduce financial costs in years to come.
The invitees and the students, were taken on field visits to show the Biogas plant, which supplies gas for the Airlines’ main canteen and to the Engine module shop, which is entirely illuminated by the ‘Solatube’ technology.
Also there were few awareness sessions organized focused on Bio-gas production process, food preservation and Energy Efficient LED. Mr. Chathura Welvita, Managing director - HELPO Eco Green Ltd on Bio-gas production, while the food preservation was done by Mr. Deepal Samarakoon, Hygiene and quality assurance executive, SriLankan Catering and a demonstration was conducted by Mr. sampath De Silva, facilities foreman of properties and Facilities on “How to make your own energy efficient LED bulb.”
