Solatube System to light the Module Shop

Solatube System to light the Module Shop

SriLankan introduced a revolutionary SOLAtube day lighting harnessing system to Engineering division’s Engine Module Shop which research identified as the most cost-effective way to bring natural sunlight into the building, where tasks were carried out mostly during the daytime.

The day lighting harnessing mechanism can be described as a simple yet ingénues solution to harness natural light. It directs sunlight through a special tube which holds on top of the roof to reflect the light towards the building below enhancing its strength. This tubing is far more efficient than a traditional drywall skylight shaft, which can lose over half of the potential light. The tubing will fit between rafters and can be installed easily with no structural modifications. SOLAtube system will block UV rays and infrared spectrum of light. This largely reduces the solar heat gain, which in turn reduce the air conditioning load requirement for that area. Also by introducing this system to Engine module shop, SriLankan able to save 800,000/= LKR per annum.
