World Environment Day – 2015

The fundamentals of SriLankan’s Green Agenda are drawn on the notion of inspiring nature lovers and leaving a trail of green which other could follows and embrace. As the World Environment Day 2015 drawn on 5th June 2015, SriLankan Airlines initiated a series of projects which aimed at driving communities, nature lovers and passengers alike towards the common goal of preserving the nature.
Becoming the first Airline in the region and as the highlight of the day, SriLankan Airlines launched its Voluntary Carbon Offset programme,”Flygreen, save our planet”. Implemented under “Planet-friendly SriLankan” initiatives, ‘Flygreen” is in collaboration with International Air Transport Association (IATA) who monitors the programme for quality and the transparency purposes.
This was followed by an awards presentation for the winners of an Art competition conducted for the children of the Employees, at SriLankan Airlines, the airline believes that younger generation should be given the necessary guidance to make them aware of the importance of conserving nature for the future generations.
Further, in line with the celebrations, SriLankan Green unit also released a special book titled ‘Greener Sustainability’ which captures and discusses the Airline’s efforts to promote sustainable development. The book was officially launched and handed over to Captain Kiran Kumaranayagam, then Senior Manager Flight Operations by Pradeepa Kekulawala, Convener of Green team and Head of Human Resources during the Environment Day Celebrations.
The days programme was concluded with a presentation by Mr. Peter Rezel, Managing director GLIDE (Pvt) Ltd on the environment day theme “Seven Billion dreams, One Planet, Consume with care” for the invited school children from nearby schools.
