Animal Rescue Mission with INSEE - 2017

Maintaining its commitment to the Global Sustainability Strategy, fastened to the triple bottom-line creating value for people, planet alongside profitability, corporate entities are expected to place great emphasis on the Preservation of biodiversity.
INSEE, former Holcim Lanka (pvt) Ltd a renowned Cement manufacture in Sri Lanka is such entity that committed to uphold its commitment to the biodiversity. Its annual animal rescue mission is well received by the corporates in the country as an opportunity to volunteer for biodiversity conservation. As this programme is an invitation only event, and considering the fact that they invite only for those who really committed for the course, SriLankan believe it’s an honour and privilege to be part of this timely national cause consecutively.
As a continues support for the project, In 2017 also a team from SriLankan Airlines, Danuka Susindu, from Engineering and Indrajith Karunarathna, Group Assurance & Advisory join the Annual Animal Rescue Program led by INSEE team with patronage of the International Union of the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) from 11th - 12th December 2017 at the Aruakalu quarry site, Puttalam.
The day time mission was inaugurated at 2:00pm with more than 30 volunteers by a comprehensive briefing given by INSEE on key objectives of the event such as, geographical parameters, different types of animals and plants with safety dimensions etc... And the night time mission started around 7.30 p.m. on the same day to explore the jungle to rescue slow moving species.
Key undertaking for the last day was to relocate the rescued animals to a safer area which was collected during the day and night missions. A significant quantity of animals including many species of geckos, Snakes, Tortoises, Frog species, Scorpion species, Beetles, Centipede, Bugs and Tarantula species were able relocated in to a new location.
After relocating the animals, the volunteers started rescuing indigenous and unique plants to Sri Lanka such as Kaluwara, Jabara, Veera, Thammanna, Palu, Kiri-koon, Koon, and Kora kaha etc. The required plants were marked by the experts from IUCN team and the volunteers were asked to safely remove and relocate.
The event was concluded with a knowledge sharing session giving the volunteers to share their experiences and discuss the learning points of the programme. The two day volunteer session was a good opportunity for the staff to explore their inner strengths, gain knowledge and experience the nature which would not be achieved in any other way. SriLankan believe in creating conservation minded staff who would help to protect the world that they live in and safeguard for the future generations. Volunteering for the efforts such as INSEE animal rescue programme is a step towards that believe.
