World Environment Day 2012

SriLankan Airlines Celebrate the World Environment day 2012 with a sequence of event including a tree planting, an art competition and an environmental awareness campaign at Katunayake. While the key feature of the day’s events was planting and distributing 1500 plant among staff members, the educational sessions was also appreciated by all the attendees. This special awareness session was organized for the Airline staff and the invited students from nearby schools which was conducted by Mr. Uchita De Zoysa, a well-known activist on climate change and sustainable development, educate the attendees on all aspects of the subject, especially in relation to Sri Lanka.

Also SriLankan Environment team organized an Art competition among the children of the employees for the first time, which was well received by the staff and more than 150 drawings were received for the competition. The winners of the Art competition was also rewarded at the event.

Further a special supplement was published in the airlines internal newsletter ‘Monara’, which was distributed on that day and staff were also provided with three informational leaflets on how to save energy at home and in the workplace.
