Earth hour 2019 – CLICKBACK

3/30/2019

Sri Lanka is at present going through dramatic weather and severe environmental challenges. It is also not a secret that this is due to most of us neglecting our environmental responsibilities. Therefore, ‘CLICKback 2019’ - a photographic competition was organised by the SriLankan Airlines’ Environment Unit in order to raise awareness of the staff members regarding the adverse effects of environment pollution and destruction which also coincides with this year’s project for ‘Earth Hour’, the global initiative. The theme of this competition was ‘Man vs Nature’ and staff were given the opportunity to showcase their skills and creativity to capture unique moments and scenarios portraying the theme.

The enthusiasm of our staff to participate was overwhelming and many have submitted their unique photographs capturing the theme accurately. These unique moments were showcased at the Main Staff Cafeteria from the 09th to 16th of April. The competition was well received by the participants whereas the judges had a tough time invigilating the same. In order to maintain the transparency of the competition, the Environment unit invited a well-seasoned team of judges from the National Association of Photographers of Sri Lanka and they professionally evaluated each and every image based on the theme and guidelines provided. The team of judges included Mr. Wimal Amaratunge - Director of the Federation of Asian Photographic Art (FARA) who is also a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Kelaniya. Mr. Amaratunge led the team with Mr. Deepal Gunatilake - Director of the National Association of Photographers of Sri Lanka, along with Mr. Niroshan Ranawake from SriLankan Cares, who participated as neutral invigilator.

Mr. Pasan Senanayake, from the Cargo division became the winner of ‘CLICKback 2019’ with his creative image on the lines of water pollution, while Mr. Nuwan Hettiarachchi from SriLankan Aviation College was selected as 1st Runner-up and Mr. Saman Ratnayake, from Overseas – Sales was selected as the 2nd Runner-up. Certificates and prizes for the winners & participants were distributed by the Convener of the Green Team and Head of Properties & Logistics - Mr. Pradeepa Kekulawala accompanied by Mr. Dhanushka de Silva, Environment Compliance & Planning Manager.

As the organisers, SriLankan Airline’s Environment unit would like to congratulate the winners and also thank each staff member for taking part in this competition. The unit thanks each and every one of you who supported them to make this competition a success.
